A Tribute to Barney Davis

Barney Davis was born in Somerville in 1913, graduated from Somerville High School and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Sam Houston State University. He began his working career as a school teacher and then was offered a job at Central Power & Light Company as a cashier.  He retired from CP&L on January 1, 1975, as the CEO and President of the company.  After retirement, he and his wife Pam built their retirement home in Somerville on the same spot where his original home was located.  He became Mayor of Somerville and was responsible for many improvements in the city and also worked toward an agreement with the Corps of Engineers for the City of Somerville to take over the operation of Welch Park on Lake Somerville.  Barney organized the Somerville Area Museum in 1979 that is still operated by the Somerville Historical Society today.  We dedicate this site to our benefactor, Barney Davis.
